Home Updates: Master Bathroom

When we decided to purchase our new home, I had literally just remodeled our tiny little bathroom 3 weeks prior. I did it for under $100 and I was SO proud of the work that I had done to completely transform our only dark and dreary bathroom into a bright, light, and airy farmhouse masterpiece!

Of course, we couldn’t turn down our dream home just because I was attached to our newly remodeled bathroom. The new house had 3 bathrooms I would get to decorate anyway!

The previous owner of our new home had a very eclectic style and much of the house was decorated with red accents. Red is probably my least favorite color. I don't wear it often, and I definitely don't prefer it in my home.

Here is what the master bath looked like before I got my hands on it!

I wanted to use the ideas from the bathroom at our old house as inspiration for our new master bath. I stuck to the farmhouse theme since that’s the route we went for our bedroom. You can see that transformation here. The two rooms now flow together so well with the colors and decorative pieces & I couldn’t love it more.

The first thing we did when we moved in was take down the cabinet above the toilet. It was very modern & not exactly the look I was going for. Luckily, the previous owner took everything else on the walls with her.

We kept the walls the same color for the time being as they are grey with blue undertones. I could see us eventually repainting just to spruce it up a bit, but for now they work!

We replaced the cabinet over the toilet with the shelves below. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

I chose a mainly white & grey color scheme, with touches of greenery here and there to make the space more calming & inviting. I think touches of green add so much character & life to a room! The shelves, "bless" metal sign, wreath, and vines are all from Hobby Lobby. Everything was purchased at 50% off.

The plant on the top shelf is a steal at $4.99! Unfortunately, this exact one is no longer available, however this one is very similar at the same great price!

I love the idea of minimalistic spaces as well as decor on a budget. Who said you couldn't use cotton swabs & toilet paper for decoration?! I had some mason jars lying around and these cute little mini jam jars that I decided to re-purpose. Now, they double as storage for my toiletries as well as cute decor.

Here is the "after" photo when the project was complete!

We were able to use the same shower curtain and rugs from the old house since they were brand new! My biggest struggle with this bathroom was finding a mirror large enough (but not too large) to go above the vanity. As you can see in the first photo, it is a single-sink vanity, however the countertop is definitely long enough for two people to get ready at the same time. I wanted a mirror that both Ben and I could use at the same time without feeling crowded. Finding the exact dimensions I was looking for was easier said than done!

I searched multiple stores including HomeGoods, Target, TJ Maxx, Pier One, Kirklands, WalMart, as well as online at Wayfair, Joss & Main, Amazon… literally you name it. I began to get extremely discouraged but by the grace of God I FINALLY found the perfect mirror on sale at Hobby Lobby as well. I love how the grey wooden frame pulls out the rustic accents of the shelves.

We really did not have to do a whole lot to transform this bathroom, which made my wallet very happy! It's amazing what a couple of practical items & few simple pieces can do to liven up a space!

What kind of items do you have just lying around the house that could easily be used as decor?
